A flexible yet streamlined Sitecore CMS website built to cope with peaks in traffic.Download as PDF
Codehouse has been heavily involved helping The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) to move their online activities onto a unified, professional platform acting as a centre-point for all those within, or with an interest in, the accountancy profession. The site has been designed and built on the Sitecore CMS using a powerful partnership between Codehouse and ICAEW's own development team.
The ICAEW wanted to place their online presence onto a modern CMS platform to streamline content management processes. At the same time their website's designs were to be reviewed and brought up-to-date with a new contemporary look. Sitecore was chosen as the CMS platform for its flexibility and scalability and Codehouse were chosen to make sure the ICAEW were able to leverage this world class CMS.
The ICAEW wanted their sites to accommodate the needs of existing financial practitioners (namely accountants), as well as those interested in a career in accountancy and also companies and individuals searching for accounting resources. The main site's members section, where ACA professionals get access to all the services and information they need to succeed in the world of accounting, needed to be reorganised and made more manageable.
The new websites needed a platform to be flexible, yet stable and scalable to be able to cope with peaks in traffic at key times of the year such as exam results day.
After a CMS analysis phase it was decided to build the new sites on the Sitecore CMS exactly because of this platform's scalability and flexibility. Development began only after a comprehensive Sitecore discovery phase where Codehouse helped the ICAEW align business goals with feature/functionality decisions. The development phases happened as a series of Agile sprints delivering fully fledged features that could be tested and signed off. The first sites to be migrated to the new Sitecore CMS are the main ICAEW site (www.icaew.com) and the ICAEW careers site (www.careers.icaew.com), a focused campaign site to attract students into a career in the world of accounting.
Both sites were developed by Codehouse's dedicated team of in-house web developers using their deep Sitecore knowledge combined with the necessary C# and ASP.NET powers. Codehouse have been working closely with ICAEW to meet their needs and wishes as well as ensuring the ICAEW have a solution they can manage and support post launch – both content-wise and technically.
The sites relaunched with a completely new website Information Architecture (with 301 redirects to relevant, new locations) containing thousands of pages on all technical/business topics within the world of accounting and finance.
The main ICAEW site has a members area where you can find all the information you need when you are working within the accountancy sector. Here you can find regulations and guidance, and a large library of downloads, news and events. Should you not be able to navigate to what you seek, the site integrates with a powerful search engine (Google Search Appliance) that can do the work for you.
There are also personalised areas, allowing members of the ICAEW to maintain lists of bookmarks and to subscribe to latest content from the ICAEW faculties they are members of.
But the site is also aimed at individuals and organisations looking to find an accountant. You will be able to find tips on how to find and choose the right accountant, and there is an extensive directory of almost 20,000 accountancy firms.
The Careers site is aimed towards school leavers and graduates, informing, in layman's terms, about the world of accounting – everything from education to the types of practice areas to the expected salary. The site integrates with Facebook and enables visitors easily to share the content with their social network. Videos from a dedicated ICAEW YouTube channel are used to make the site more alive and dynamic.
Both sites are built using the powerful Sitecore CMS. For ICAEW staff, be they technical or marketing, this means that they only need to learn and operate the one content management system - and it is easy to link across sites or to re-use web code or re-purpose content.
Thanks to Sitecore's numerous features, add-ons and integration capabilities the sites easily integrate into social media like Twitter and Facebook and online Community tools. Add a few Codehouse Modules and visitors can rate the content, subscribe to RSS feeds, etc.
