According to Gartner, an insight engine differs from a search engine by delivering richer indexes, more complex queries, and elaborated relevancy methods.
Their capabilities derive from the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, specifically natural-language processing, graph-based data structures, and machine learning (ML).
Insight engines differ from search engines by their ability to deliver insights in context to the right person, in the right place, at the right time.

According to the report:
By 2019, 50% of analytic queries will be generated using search, natural-language processing, voice, or auto-generation.
